GEM COUNTY SHERIFF’S POSSE

Founded originally in December 1954 as the gem county sheriff’s mounted posse, inc.

Changed to the gem county sheriff’s posse, inc. in 2003 still exists today.

The purpose of this Volunteer Organization of Gem County, State of Idaho

To provide Emergency Support, Assistance, Community Service, and Search and Rescue as directed by the Governor of the State of Idaho Sheriff of Gem County, State of Idaho, Or any and all Duly Qualified Law Enforcement Agencies.

Made up of all volunteers, who are background checked.

  • Volunteers are all certified in CPR and First Aid.
  • Members help assist in Emergency Search & Rescue Efforts, Traffic Control, and other activities requested by Law Enforcement Agencies thru the request from the Sheriff.
  • Traffic control for community events, and Emergencies when they happen.

Posse Member have given thousands of combined Hours including searching, training, community service to our community with limited resources each year.

Some of the equipment used by our members includes:

  • Maps
  • GPS & Compass
  • Police Radio’s UHF
  • 4 wheelers & UTVs
  • Horses

Most of these are owned and supplied by Members with the exception of radio’s.

UNKNOWN TRIVIA:

The Gem county sheriff’s mounted posse was the first in the State of Idaho to be issued a horse racing license.
